A Look Back at 1978

This year Kate Bush made history by being the first woman to achieve a number one with a self-penned single Wuthering Heights and Cricketer Ian Botham was the first man in history to score a century and take 8 wickets in 1 inning of a Test match. There was still a lot of trouble in 1978 with the IRA this year and there is a gift to modern medicine with the invention of artificial insulin.







There was one big musical sensation this year when Sandy and Danny fell in love wearing leather trousers. Grease! We also watched Superman and Halloween.


Porridge spin-off Going Straight aired on the BBC and the long running occasional 'An Audience With' started with it's first featuring Jasper Carrott. It's also the 15th anniversary of the first episode of science fiction series Doctor Who.
